1
What is Botox®?
Botox®, scientifically known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, is a highly purified neurotoxin protein that has been extensively used for both medical and aesthetic purposes.
In aesthetic treatments, Botox® is primarily employed to temporarily relax specific facial muscles responsible for forming dynamic wrinkles – those lines that appear with facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting. By subtly relaxing these muscles, Botox® softens existing lines and prevents new ones from forming, leading to a smoother and more youthful facial appearance.
2
How Does It Work?
Botox® works by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the targeted muscles. When injected into specific facial muscles, it prevents the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that signals muscles to contract.
This temporary relaxation of the muscles smooths out the overlying skin, reducing the visibility of dynamic wrinkles and fine lines.
The effects are localised to the treated area, allowing surrounding
muscles to function normally and maintaining natural facial expressions.
3
Is Botox® Safe?
Yes, Botox® is considered a very safe and effective treatment when administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional. It has been approved by major health authorities worldwide, including the U.S. FDA, and has an extensive track record of safe use spanning several decades for both cosmetic and medical conditions.
At Venusia Medical Aesthetics Clinic, our certified aesthetic physicians undergo rigorous training and adhere to the highest safety standards to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
